About Gary

Gary Teeters

Gary obtained his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Penn State University. He next earned his PhD at Indiana University working for Dr. Justin Kumar studying dorsal/ventral fate and signaling the in developing Drosophila eye disc. Gary has research interest in neuronal fating as well as neuron injury and regeneration. In the Siegrist lab he is currently studying how the Drosophila mushroom body responds to injury.

Methods for Cell Ablation

Methods for Cell Ablation

We are working to develop better methods to ablate defined sets of cells in a temporally controlled manner. With new ablation methods, we are working to understand the limited regenerative capacity of neural tissues.

RNAi screening

RNAi screening

We continue to make use of Drosophila as a genetic model to identify genes required for termination of neurogenesis. Through screening, using UAS-RNAi lines generated by the Transgeneic RNAi Project (TRiP), we have identified 14 genes.
